How We’ll Get To Know Each Other
Understand what our first few sessions will be like
You’re about to embark on the challenging journey to the life you desire. Counselling will take you out of your comfort zone, but I know you can do it. I hope my easygoing nature will help you feel at ease.
We’ll start with me asking some questions to understand where you’ve been.
Chances are, we’ll find a few things we have in common! We’ll progress in a manner that’s comfortable to you. We’ll identify issues that you want to discuss and things you want to improve.
“Once I understand a bit about who you are, we’ll find ways to inspire change.”
Sometimes, counselling will simply involve transforming your thinking, and identifying a more positive approach to certain situations.
I’ll teach you how to deal with your life in a healthier way, and I’ll provide you with tools to use outside of my office.
There’s No Agenda For Our Time Together
We’ll tackle issues you want to talk about – and we can take as long as you need
Road to mental well-being isn’t a straight & narrow path, & likewise, there’s more than one way to treat each patient.
A lot of our time will be spent trying new methods, and then evaluating how they work. There’s no cookie cutter answers or definitive solutions – what works for one person may or may not be effective for you.
“There’s no rush. We’re in this together, and I’m committed to helping you get to where you want to be.”
Sometimes, we’ll spend our time just simply talking. However, other times, we’ll incorporate other exercises to help you practice the things you want to work on, such as active listening, communication strategies, and visualization.
I may send you out with real-life “homework” to determine if a technique is helpful for you.
Therapy Isn’t Forever
You may need help for a long time, or just a few months. Both are OK.
Humans require both regular mental and physical maintenance to help keep us performing at our very best.
Like the way a good workout makes you feel energized, I
hope that our counselling sessions can help you thrive inside and out.
You may decide that you need to speak with me for only a short period of time, to help resolve a certain issue. Or, you may walk through my door and not be able to see past what
is making it hard to get out of bed in the morning.
“I welcome you into my office, no matter your journey. Some problems take more time to solve than others.”
When you’re ready to end our sessions, I’ll still be available should you need a listening ear. It’s perfectly normal to need a helping hand.
My clients get a counselling approach that is client focused with
flexibility and grace. The flexibility also keeps me in check for understanding my client’s needs.
Ultimately, I work to understand my client’s agenda and introduce strategies and approaches when they are ready and willing.
“Overall, I use a narrative that is uplifting, positive and hopeful.”
As a person sensitive to the feelings and thoughts of others since a young age, I remember experiences of feeling guilty, and sad I potentially hurt the feelings of others.
I’m Your Contemporary… Psychologist
We’re probably more alike than different
As one of the youngest Registered Psychologists in Edmonton, you will not find me continuously asking you, “Well, how do you feel about that?”
With me, you’ll get straight up answers and complete transparency, especially about the therapy process.
My intention is to present ideas with simplicity and clarity, although they are deeply introspective ideas. Also, don’t be surprised if we laugh during our sessions—therapy isn’t always dark and intense. You’ll find me spontaneous, and uplifting without being sugary.
“Because I’m young, I understand first hand what you’re going through. I’ve might even have dealt with some of the issues you’re currently facing.”
My job is to provide a confidential judgement-free zone in which
you feel safe enough to open up and together we’ll solve what ever.
